Tulsa, Oklahoma - The Tulsa Golden Hurricane football team held spring practice No. 12 on Saturday morning, and finished the practice session with a one-hour scrimmage that saw bright spots on both sides of the ball.

Tulsa will close out spring drills next Saturday, April 18th with the Annual Spring Game, scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. at H.A. Chapman Stadium. The spring game is Free Admission to the public. Canned food items and funds will be collected at the gates to benefit the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma.

A TU Football Equipment Sale in which fans will be able to purchase TU gear, including game-worn jerseys, polos, t-shirts, hats, special game footballs, hoodies and more, priced from $5 to $25 will be for sale at the northwest plaza. Stadium gates 1&2 only will open at 11:30 a.m.

"I think there were bright spots on both sides of the ball today. Offensively we hit a couple of big plays and sustained some drives. Defensively, we had a string of 3 or 4 3-and-outs, so that's always good to see," said Tulsa Head Coach Philip Montgomery. "Anytime you get into these scrimmages, it's always a give-and-take and you want to see both sides doing well. As long as we were out there and executing, that was the main point today."

Montgomery was pleased with the way Tulsa quarterbacks through the deep ball today after not having a particular good day on Friday.

"We threw the deep ball so bad yesterday. We put a strong emphasis on it in the meeting and Dane (Evans) really came out and reacted well to it, and it was really probably the best that I've seen him throw the deep ball today.

Asked about if he liked the pace of the offense today, Montgomery commented, "No, I really didn't. I thought we were slow. I didn't think we got the ball set quick enough, and I don't think we're getting it back as fast as we need to be. Guys are staring at the sidelines and had to move around a little bit more. I thought our pace was pretty slow today. It's something we'll have to address on Tuesday. It's a work in progress. We'll get it right.

Montgomery has been pleased with the play of the running backs corps.

"I think our running backs as whole have played really well. D'Angelo played well. Ramadi (Warren) has played well. Then you still have James (Flanders) and (Zack) Langer. All of those guys have really stepped up to the plate, but the two young kids have been bright spots for us," Montgomery said.

He also pointed out the play of the receiving corps. "You always talk about Keevan, Keyarris and those guys at receiver. Conner (Floyd) has been solid all the way through, and Josh (Atkinson) has really had a good camp," said Montgomery.

Tulsa will be back on the practice field on Tuesday and Friday, before closing out spring drills on Saturday.
