Men's Track in First, Women in Fifth After First Day of American Outdoor Championships

The men had three-top three finishers in two events on Thursday
STORRS, Conn. - The University of Tulsa men's track and field team are in first place, while the women sit in fifth, after day one of the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, at the University of Connecticut.
The men finished the day with 31 team points in two events, while the women picked up six points in their lone event on Thursday.
Alex Lybarger produced Tulsa's first points of the championships, after a second place finish in the men's hammer throw. Lybarger had a throw of 196'9" just behind the top throw of 198'11" by Chris Ackell of Connecticut. The second-place finish was good for eight points for the men's team.
In the evening event, the men's 10,000-meter run, the Hurricane picked up 23 big points, led byMarc Scott (30:40.55) and Tim Rackers (30:42.44), who finished first and second, respectively. Kirk Smith (31:30.19) had a sixth-place finish for TU, while senior Peter Hodkinson finished in seventh (31:57.47) in the event.
The women picked up their first points of the meet in the women's 10k, where Danielle Medearisfinished fifth (35:49.36) for four points and Natasha Cockram finished in seventh (36:03.38) for two points.
