The Tulsa football team scrimmaged in full pads Saturday morning in front of nearly 2,500 fans on Fan Appreciation Day at H.A. Chapman Stadium.

Head Coach Philip Montgomery donned the Official White-Out Game T-shirt that fans can purchase for just $5.00 for the first regular season game when Tulsa hosts FAU in a 2:30 p.m. game on Saturday, September 5 at Chapman Stadium.

"I just wanted to wear it today, just to show fans that this is what they can purchase for our White-Out Game. It's a nice shirt. We want to fill the stadium up and everyone looking the same. I don't care of if it's this shirt, I'd love for it to be this shirt, but just wear a white shirt. Let's sell this stadium out, cover it in white. Be excited and be loud. Come support our guys. We're going to put a good brand of football out there and give fans something to cheer about," said Montgomery.

Official White-Out T-shirts are available at Midwest Sporting Goods locations in Tulsa, online at tulsafootball.itemorder.com and can be purchased at the stadium gates on game day. Cost for the T-shirt is $5.00. In addition, the first 5,000 fans will receive a Hurricane Flag to help support Tulsa's 'Wave the Flag' Tradition that began a year ago.

Montgomery was pleased with his team's performance on Saturday, but knows that the Hurricane has a lot of work still to do.

"It's the first scrimmage and the first time to work with officials, but we saw signs of what we want this offense to be. Keyarris (Garrett) and Keevan (Lucas) made some good catches. Josh (Atkinson) made one. There were some good runs in there. Defensively, we had several three-and-outs and some bang-bang plays in the secondary. I like where we finished up," Montgomery added.

Dane Evans threw a 31-yard touchdown pass to Garrett and a 39-yard TD toss to Lucas, while Joseph Calcagni connected with Josh Atkinson for a 37-yard touchdown.

Asked about the connection between Evans and Garrett, Montgomery explained, "we just have to continue moving on that. It's still early. We still have a lot of work to do, but we have to give those guys a chance to make plays down the field, and that's what we're going to try to do. I thought Dane was really good. There's some things with his feet I didn't like, there's a couple throws that he'll want back, but I thought overall he managed the game, and that's what he has to do."

Montgomery added about the quarterbacks, "Dane played really well. He still has a lot of work to go. Joe came in and got some reps with the ones and moved them down the field. He threw the ball well today. It's still a good competition."

Montgomery pointed to three aspects that the coaching staff wants to see in a scrimmage like today's. "Offensively, you want to move the ball, hit a play here or there and be as consistent as you can. On defense, you want some three-and-outs, react to their assignments, create a turnover here or there. Third, get out healthy."

"I want them to feel good about what they did today, but also understand that we're not nearly there yet," Montgomery commented.

Following the scrimmage, Montgomery and the Tulsa football team signed autographs and took photos with Golden Hurricane fans.

Tulsa will be back on the practice field Monday morning.
