Tulsa Offensive Trio Named to Preseason Watch List for Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award

The University of Tulsa receivers Keyarris Garrett and Keevan Lucas and quarterback Dane Evans were each named to the preseason watch list for the 2015 Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, it was announced today by the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce. This is the third year of the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, which recognizes the top offensive player in the Football Bowl Subdivision from the state of Texas.
 
A total of 39 players from 10 different conferences and one independent have been named to Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Preseason Watch List. Garrett and Lucas are two of 11 receivers named to the list.
 
To be eligible for the award the nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: (1) Born in Texas; (2) Graduated from a Texas high school; or (3) played at a Texas-based junior college of four-year college.
 
Lucas, a 5'10" junior from Abilene High School in Abilene, Texas, has 1,661 career receiving yards and 12 touchdowns on 133 receptions for a 12.5 average per reception in his first two seasons. A year ago, Lucas was named as one of 16 semifinalists for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award. He led the Hurricane with 101 receptions for 1,219 yards and 11 TDs in 2014, while ranking among the nation's leaders for receptions per game (5th), receiving yards per game (11th), receiving yards (12th) and receiving TDs (12th).
 
The 6'4" Garrett, from Daingerfield High School in Daingerfield, Texas, has played in 32 career games and has caught 123 passes for 1,621 yards and 14 touchdowns. A senior, Garrett entered the 2013 season as a preseason candidate for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, but was sidelined after the second game with a season-ending injury. He caught 47 passes for 698 yards and five touchdowns in 10 games last year.
 
A three-year starter at Sanger High School in Sanger, Texas, Evans completed 55-percent of his passes for 3,102 yards and 23 touchdowns last season. The 6'1" junior quarterback has thrown for 4,000 yards and 27 touchdowns in 20 career games with the Hurricane. In 2014, Evans ranked second in the American Athletic Conference for completions per game, passing yards per game and total offense, while his passing TDs and total passing yards ranked third in the league
 
In addition to excelling on the field, candidates must also exhibit "the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community and tenacity; specifically tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals."
 
The Watch List announced today will be narrowed to up to 16 semifinalists in November and then up to 5 finalists in December. The finalists will be brought to Tyler for The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Awards Banquet scheduled for January 13, 2016.
 
Tulsa opens the 2015 season against the FAU Owls on Saturday, September 5, at H.A. Chapman Stadium with game time set for 2:30 p.m.
