Tulsa Women’s Soccer Team Opens Season This Weekend with Two Home Contests

The Tulsa women's soccer team will open the 2015 campaign with a pair of games at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. TU will take on Mercer on Friday, Aug. 21 at 7:30 pm, and then face Missouri Southern on Sunday, Aug. 23 at 5:00 pm.

Tickets are $5 general admission and can be purchased at the north ticket gate, online at TulsaHurricane.com or by calling the TU Athletic Ticket Office at 918.631.4688. Youth 12 and under can get in free by wearing a soccer jersey, and TU students can show their student ID to receive free admission at the gate.

The Golden Hurricane returns 25 letterwinners, including all 11 starters, and welcomes five newcomers to the roster.

TU finished the 2014 campaign with an 11-8-2 overall record, including a 4-4-1 mark in American Athletic Conference play. Tulsa tallied 30 goals, recorded seven clean sheets and had three players tabbed to the league's all-Rookie team, while Rachel Thun was named The American's Rookie of the Year and was selected to the all-conference first team.

Thun had a team-best 23 points off of eight goals and seven assists, while Christina Holmes had a team-leading nine goals and one assist for 19 points a year ago. Lauren King also had double-digit points with four goals and four assists for 12 points. Courtney McKeon logged the most time in goal with 1585:03, and tallied 63 saves and four shutouts to anchor TU's defense.

The Mercer Bears posted 14 wins, claimed the Southern Conference Championship and earned a bid in the NCAA Tournament last season, and the MSSU Lions had five wins a year ago.

The Golden Hurricane defeated Mercer in the only previous meeting during the 1993 season, while this will be the first meeting against Missouri Southern.
