Tulsa Men’s Tennis Defeats No. 36-Ranked Notre Dame, 4-3, To Conclude 2016 ITA Kick-Off Weekend

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa men's tennis team defeats No. 36-ranked Notre Dame in a 4-3 thriller Saturday afternoon to conclude the 2016 ITA Kick-Off Weekend at the Atkins Tennis Center. The No. 24-ranked Golden Hurricane posted a 1-1 record on the weekend after falling to No. 25-ranked Northwestern on Friday.
 
There are 60 schools around the nation that are competed for 15 vacant spots at the ITA National Men's Team Indoor Championship, hosted next month in Charlottesville, Virginia.
 
Tulsa won the doubles match on court three, but it wasn't enough as Notre Dame won courts one and two to earn a 1-0 advantage going into singles play. After losing courts one and three in singles play, freshman newcomer Majed Kilani, sophomore Juan Matias Gonzalez, junior Daniel Santos and senior Carlos Bautista all picked up wins on their respective courts to help deliver a Tulsa win.

1. Quentin Monaghan (Notre Dame) defeated Or Ram-Harel (Tulsa), 6-1, 6-3
2. Carlos Bautista (Tulsa) defeated Eddy Covalschi (Notre Dame), 6-3, 6-7, 6-2
3. Alex Lawson (Notre Dame) defeated Dylan McCloskey (Tulsa), 7-6, 4-6, 6-2
4. Majed Kilani (Tulsa) defeated Josh Hagar (Notre Dame), 6-3, 6-0
5. Juan Matias Gonzalez (Tulsa) defeated Grayson Broadus (Notre Dame), 6-3, 3-6, 6-3
6. Daniel Santos (Tulsa) defeated Kenny Sabacinski (Notre Dame), 6-2, 6-1
 
DOUBLES
1. Lawson/Monaghan (Notre Dame) defeated McCloskey/Kirby (Tulsa), 7-6
2. Covalschi/Hagar (Notre Dame) defeated O.Kellerman/F.Kellerman (Tulsa), 6-2
3. Bautista/Gonzalez (Tulsa) defeated Schurrenberger/Broadus (Notre Dame), 6-4
 
Records: Tulsa 3-1, Notre Dame 2-2 

The Hurricane returns to the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on Sunday, Jan. 31, where it will take on Purdue at 10:00 a.m., and Wichita State later that evening at 5:00 p.m.
