Tulsa Men’s Tennis Storms Past Santa Clara, 4-0, Friday Afternoon

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa men's tennis team defeated Santa Clara in a 4-0 decision Friday afternoon at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. The No. 29-ranked Golden Hurricane improves to an overall 6-2 record, while Santa Clara falls to 4-3 overall.

Tulsa started doubles play strong as the No. 1 pair in Dylan McCloskey and Matthew Kirby took down Santa Clara's Ashot Khacharyan and Jeffrey Liang in a 6-1 decision. The No. 3 doubles match was the second to finish play as Santa Clara's Kamran Khan and Connor Garnett defeated Or Ram-Harel and Dominic Bechard in a 6-2 decision. The doubles point came down to the No. 2 doubles match where TU's No. 52-ranked doubles pair Juan Matias Gonzalez and Carlos Bautista defeated Andrew Gu and Robert Seby in a 6-3 decision to take a 1-0 match lead going into singles play.

Tulsa dominated singles play from the start as Juan Matias Gonzalez (No. 3) defeated Andrew Gu, 6-3, 6-4, to give the Hurricane a 2-0 match lead. The No. 5 singles match was the second to finish play as Okkie Kellerman took down Kamran Khan, 6-4, 7-5, to give TU a 3-0 match lead. Dylan McCloskey (No. 2) lost his first set but he bounced back to win his second and third sets against Robert Seby, 3-6, 6-1, 6-1, to clinch the 4-0 Tulsa win. The No. 1, No. 4 and No. 6 singles matches did not finish play after the Tulsa clinched the match victory.
