Softball to Play at Texas Invitational

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa softball team will play at the Texas Invitational Friday-Sunday, against Texas, Illinois, Weber State and Abilene Christian at Red and Charline McCombs Field in Austin, Texas.
 
The Golden Hurricane (8-2) opens the tournament at 9 a.m. Friday against Weber State (7-4), and then faces No. 24 Texas (10-0) at 2:30 p.m. TU then faces the Longhorns again at 10 a.m. Saturday, and Abilene Christian (2-7) at 3 p.m. The Hurricane closes the tournament against Illinois (5-4) at Noon Sunday.
 
Four Tulsa games in the tournament will be televised on the Longhorn Network (Cox 347/1347, UVerse 611/1611): Friday's game vs. Weber State and both games vs. Texas will air live, while Sunday's contest vs. Illinois will air tape-delayed at 3:30 p.m. on LHN.
 
Live stats for all five games will be available at http://www.sidearmstats.com/texas/softball/. Live televised games will also be available on WatchESPN online and on the app: Tulsa vs Weber State, Tulsa vs Texas Friday, Tulsa vs Texas Saturday.
 
This will be the first meeting between Tulsa and Weber State. Tulsa defeated Abilene Christian 10-0 last season in the lone meetings between the schools. Texas leads the series against Tulsa, 3-1. The lone Hurricane win was a 7-4 victory in 2013. The Longhorns later won 1-0 in the same Texas tournament. Tulsa leads the series against Illinois, 4-0. The teams last met in 2006, when the Hurricane won, 2-0 and 8-7.
 
The Hurricane is led by reigning American Athletic Conference Player of the Week junior outfielder Maddie Withee, who is batting .438 with 15 RBI, four doubles and five runs scored. Senior outfielder Jodi Edmiston hits .406, and has scored eight runs, and senior first baseman Jocelyn Sheffield has 13 RBI, four home runs and two doubles, and a .345 batting average.
 
American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week Emily Watson leads Tulsa in the circle with a 3-1 record and a 0.28 ERA. She has 44 strikeouts against eight walks, and has allowed one earned run and 14 hits in 25.0 innings. Senior Caitlin Sill is also 3-1, with a 1.21 ERA. She has 15 strikeouts and allowed five earned runs on 23 hits in 29.0 innings.
 
Tulsa is hitting .297 with 61 runs, 51 RBI, 20 extra base hits, a .419 slugging percentage and a .371 on-base percentage. The Hurricane pitchers have posted a combined 1.25 ERA with 69 strikeouts in 67.0 innings, and allowed a .212 opponent batting average, 55 hits and 12 earned runs.
