Tulsa rower Jennifer Casson will compete in the U23 Lightweight 2x at the World U23 Championships in Rotterdam, Netherlands, from August 21-28. Casson, along with partner Ellen Gleadow of Notre Dame, will represent Canada.
Casson, a senior from Kingston, Ontario, is TU's first rower to make the Canadian U23 National Team, but not the first to represent her country, as Jamie Roloff, Emalia Seto and Colleen Wohlrab all made the US U23 Team in 2013, while Michelle Sechser has currently been on five lightweight US National Teams.
"We are all very proud of Jenny for making the Canadian U23 National Team," Head Coach Kevin Harris said. "We talked about her dream to represent Canada when I recruited her three years ago in Kingston. She has worked incredibly hard for the opportunity and I am excited to see what she can do in Rotterdam next week. I talked with her U23 coach, Brad Brennan, two weeks ago and they are feeling good about their preparation. Now it's go time and we will all be sitting on the edge of our seats supporting Jenny as she wears the Canadian Maple Leaf. It'll be a proud moment for all of us at Tulsa as well."
