Classic Moments in Tulsa History

It was not only the Golden Hurricane football team that brought attention to The University of Tulsa in the early 1960s with its prolific passing game, but the Hurricane track & field team also enjoyed tremendous success. A diminutive young athlete, David Smoot, was one of the leaders of the Hurricane track team. Smoot, posthumously, was recently inducted into the TU Athletic Hall of Fame as the first ever track & field athlete. As a three-time Missouri Valley Conference pole vault champion, Smoot led the Golden Hurricane to back-to-back MVC Championships in the early 60s.
