TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Tulsa Softball team split a pair of contests on day two of the Hillenbrand Invitational on Saturday afternoon, beating Cal State Northridge 7-4 before falling to No. 21-ranked Baylor 9-1 in game two of the doubleheader. The Hurricane (1-3 overall) tallied double-digit hits in their second consecutive game in the contest against CSUN (0-3 overall), batting 6-18 (.333) with runners on base.

The Hurricane put runners on early and often against the Matadors as the lead-off batter reached first base in the first four innings. Two Tulsa runs scored in the first inning off Rylie Spell's at-bat in Maggie Withee and Julia Hollingsworth before CSUN tied things up at 2-2 after one full inning.

Tulsa earned back the lead in the second as Shannon Hughes started off the inning with a single up the middle, eventually scoring on a wild pitch. Hughes came through in the third inning for the Hurricane as well, plating two runs on a two-RBI double to center field to go up after a Morgan Neal single and Tori Stafford walk loaded the bases. Neal finished with three hits on four at-bats.

TU's final runs of game one came off the Matadors' second error of the game as Tulsa took a 7-2 advantage.

Emily Watson (1-1) earned the win in the circle for the Hurricane as she tossed a complete game while striking out seven batters and surrendering just one earned run. Watson and the Tulsa defense worked their way out of a jam in the fourth inning as CSUN loaded the bases before a pop-up to Hughes at shortstop ended the threat.

Baylor (3-1 overall) struck first in game two, plating five runs in the first inning on a RBI single before an Ari Hawkins grand slam put the Bears up 5-0. BU added to their lead with a four-run second inning.

Tulsa got a run back in the third inning as Hughes earned a lead-off walk before a Stafford single put two Hurricane runners on. After advancing to third on a throwing error by the catcher, Hughes was driven home on a Maggie Withee single to left field for Tulsa's lone run of the contest.

The Hurricane will finish play at the Hillenbrand Invitational tomorrow afternoon as they take on host-school No. 10-ranked Arizona at 1 p.m.
