Softball to Open 2017 Campaign at Hillenbrand Invitational

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa softball team will open up the 2017 season tomorrow on the road at the Hillenbrand Invitational on the campus of the University of Arizona, beginning with a matchup against Fordham at 10 a.m. The tournament features six teams, five of whom made it to at least the NCAA Regionals in 2016.
Tulsa is scheduled to play five games over a three-day span at Rita Hillenbrand Memorial Stadium, two on both Friday and Saturday before wrapping up weekend play against host-school No. 10-ranked Arizona on Sunday at 1 p.m.

IN THE POLLS...
Tulsa received seven votes in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Preseason poll to open up the season and will face two teams in the poll at the Hillenbrand Invitational in #21 Baylor and #10 Arizona.
25th SEASON...
TU's 2017 campaign marks the 25th season in program history. Tulsa announced the addition of the softball team in November of 1991 before hiring Pattie Holthaus as the first softball coach in February of 1992. The Hurricane played their first game on Feb. 20, 1993 and seven years later, broke ground on a new on-campus facility that is now known as the Collins Family Softball Complex.
FIRST TEAM RETURNEES...
The Hurricane return four first-team All-American Athletic Conference members in Maddie Withee, Maggie Withee, Shelby Estocado and Julia Hollingsworth for the 2017 season, who all hit .329 or better and combined for 125 RBI during the 2016 season. In total, Tulsa has 12 letterwinners returning from last year's NCAA Tournament team, including five starters, two pitchers and a designated player.
