Softball Geared Up for Five-Game Weekend at UT Arlington

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa softball team travels to Arlington, Texas this weekend for five games, beginning tomorrow morning with a matchup against Incarnate Word at 10 a.m. at UT Arlington's Allan Saxe Field.
 
The Hurricane will round out opening day play of the Maverick Classic against Saint Francis following the contest against Incarnate Word before facing the Red Flash again on Saturday morning at 12:30 p.m. TU will round out the weekend with games against host UT Arlington Saturday evening and Sunday morning.
 
The Hurricane (8-7 overall) head into weekend play having won two straight and four of their last five, out-hitting their opponents .315 to .211 last weekend at the Cardinal Classic at Lamar University. Morgan Neal led the TU offense with a .643 batting average while pitcher Emily Watson won three games and struck out 25 batters in 15.1 innings of work.
 
Tulsa will travel to Norman, Okla. to take on the Sooners on Wednesday, March 8 and 6 p.m. before returning to the Collins Family Softball Complex on Friday, March 10 to host the Tulsa Invitational.

HOT HITTING... 
In their four games played at Lamar last weekend, Tulsa posted a weekend-best .330 team batting average on 33 with three doubles as 11 different TU hitters recorded a base hit. The Hurricane were led offensively by Morgan Neal's nine hits while Julia Hollingsworth added seven hits and seven runs scored.

THE AMERICAN PITCHER OF THE WEEK...
Junior pitcher Emily Watson was named The American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week after tossing 15.1 innings in three appearances last weekend with 25 strikeouts and a .132 opposing batting average. Watson, The American strikeout leader, struck out a season-high 15 batters in a 2-1 win over Kansas on Saturday before securing her third win of the weekend in relief during Sunday's game against Lamar. On Saturday, Watson became the 10th TU pitcher to eclipse the 300 career strikeout mark.

YOU GET A RBI, YOU GET A RBI...
All nine Tulsa starting hitters drove in a run in the opening game of the Cardinal Classic in an 11-1 (5) win over Alabama A&M. The Hurricane scored eight runs in the first inning on six RBI before the final three starters picked up their RBIs in the second and third innings.

COMING HOME...
Maggie and Maddie Withee will be in their home city this weekend as Tulsa plays five games in Arlington, Texas. Maggie Withee heads into the weekend ranked in the top-10 in Tulsa program history in batting average (5th-.331), runs scored (6th-121), hits (9th-185) and fielding assists (9th-338). Last season, Maddie Withee became just the 11th player at TU to record 45 or more RBI in a single season.
