Tulsa (10-14) clinched the doubles point and Okkie Kellerman earned a win in the No. 6 singles slot, but the Golden Hurricane dropped a 4-2 decision to #4 Baylor (19-3) on Sunday afternoon at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Jarod Hing and Daniel Santos combined for a 6-2 win over the Bears' Jimmy Bendeck and Tyler Stayer at the No. 3 doubles position, but then Johannes Schretter and Max Tchoutakian knotted up the doubles point with a 6-3 win over the Hurricane's Dominic Bechard and Kellerman in the No. 2 slot. It all came down to the first doubles match, as TU's 54th-ranked Majed Kilani and Or Ram-Harel upset 29th-ranked Juan Benitez and Will Little, 6-4.
Baylor's 37th-ranked Tchoutakian evened the score with his 6-3, 7-5 win at the No. 3 singles position over Hing, but moments later Kellerman recorded a 6-4, 6-2 victory in the No. 6 slot over Stayer to put Tulsa up 2-1.
The Bears came back and won three straight-set singles matches at the No. 4, No. 5 and No. 2 positions, in that order, to clinch the 4-2 win.
BU's fifth-ranked Benitez battled TU's 25th-ranked Ram-Harel to a 7-6, 5-3 lead in the No. 1 singles slot, but the match was unfinished.
The Golden Hurricane will return to action on Friday, April 7 against #29 Tulane. Match time is set for 4:00 pm at the City Park Pepsi Center in New Orleans, La.
