TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa softball team travels to Greenville, N.C. for their final American Athletic Conference road series of the season as they are scheduled for a three-game slate against East Carolina beginning on Friday at 5 p.m. Game two is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday with the series wrapping up on Sunday at 11 a.m.
The Hurricane (33-13 Overall, 11-1 The American) head into the series one a seven-game winning streak after sweeping UConn on the road last weekend in a series where they outscored the Huskies 17-1. SWEEP, SWEEP...
The Hurricane picked up their third sweep of a conference opponent as they won all three games on the road at UConn over the weekend, out-scoring the Huskies 17-1 in the series. TU remained unbeaten against UConn in the all-time series as they improved to 10-0 in the matchup. Tulsa swept USF to open up American Athletic Conference play and recorded their second sweep of the season against Houston at home on April 13-15.
RPI RANKINGS...
Tulsa jumped two spots in the latest RPI Rankings as released by the NCAA on Monday afternoon, moving up to 30th in the rankings from 32 last week. The Hurricane are the highest ranked team in The American, who rank ninth as a conference nationally.
WEEKLY AWARDS SWEEP...
Tulsa swept the American Athletic Conference weekly awards for the second time this season as Julia Hollingsworth was named Player of the Week for the first time while Emily Watson earned her seventh Pitcher of the Week honors as TU went 4-0 last week. Hollingsworth hit .500 on the week with four runs scored, five RBI and two home runs while slugging 1.400 and reaching base at a .643 clip. Watson posted a 3-0 record in the circle with a 0.37 ERA and 31 strikeouts with no walks, picking up double-digit strikeouts in two of three starts.
RECORD WATCH...
Emily Watson needs 16 more strikeouts to pass Julia Fennell (2004-07, 539) for third-most career strikeouts by a TU pitcher. The junior would move into a tie for third on Tulsa's list for most wins in a season with Aimee Creger (2011, 24-3) with her next victory and and needs one shutout to tie Creger for second-most shutouts in a season with 11. Watson currently sits 11 strikeouts behind Creger's 2013 season mark of 286, which marks the second-most strikeouts in a season by a Tulsa pitcher.
