Former USA National Team Member Brittnee Cooper Named Assistant Volleyball Coach at Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa volleyball program named former USA national team member Brittnee Cooper as an assistant coach, it was announced Friday by Head Coach Ryan Wills.

43366Cooper comes to Tulsa with seven years of professional volleyball experience. Her previous coaching experience was as a volunteer assistant coach at her alma mater, LSU, in 2010. While coaching, Cooper trained middle blockers and helped Desiree Elliot become the SEC Freshman of the Year in 2010.

"We are excited to have Brittnee join our staff," Wills said. "Brittnee brings valuable knowledge and experience to the position as a current professional volleyball player. She is a first-class person in addition to being an excellent athlete. We are very grateful that Brittnee is with us."

Following her collegiate career at LSU, Cooper was a member of the 2010 USA national team. Since 2011, she has played volleyball internationally and has tallied numerous individual and team awards. Cooper was named the number one blocker of the Liga de Voleibol Superior Feminine in 2011 as a member of Llarnes de Toa Baja team. In 2013, she was the number one blocker of the Pro A League. Cooper earned an award for top hitting efficiency and highest hitting percentage in the Orlen Liga. As member of Rabita Baku, she led her team to the Super League Championship as well as a third-place finish in the Champions League. Cooper's team finished in second place in the CEV Cup. In 2017, her team, Dresden Sports Club, finished third in the Bundesliga.

Cooper was a four-year letterwinner at LSU and was the SEC player of the year in 2009, as well as an AVCA First-Team All-American. During her career, she racked up two all-conference first team selections. Cooper accumulated 1,082 kills, posted 2.86 kills per set and compiled a .322 career hitting. Defensively, Cooper amassed 495 total blocks, including 415 assisted and 80 solo blocks. She collected 1.31 blocks per set and notched 68 digs. In her four years, she appeared in 378 sets and played in 106 matches. Cooper still holds the single-season record at LSU with a .409 hitting percentage and fourth in career hitting percentage with a mark of .329. She also ranked fifth for career block assists (421) and total blocks (504).

Cooper graduated from LSU with a bachelor's degree in sociology in 2010.
