“STEAD” Patch, OATA Helmet Sticker Represented by Tulsa on Football Uniforms Tonight

The University of Tulsa football coaches and student-athletes will honor former University President Dr. Steadman Upham as well as bring attention to the Oklahoma Athletic Trainers Association (OATA) during its season opener at Oklahoma State on Thursday night.

The football squad, along with every TU athletics team, will remember Upham with a special patch on its uniforms this season. The black "Stead" patch on the front of the jersey recognizes Upham, who served two stints as the president of TU (2004-12; 2012-16) and was a champion of Golden Hurricane Athletics. Upham passed away from complications following surgery on July 30.

For the second year in a row, the OATA is sponsoring a state-wide "Safety in Football Campaign". The University of Tulsa is a proud partner, along with numerous colleges and high schools across the state. The campaign is designed to demonstrate that safety in athletics begins with having an athletic trainer. TU student-athletes will be donning a small helmet sticker to represent the cumulative efforts that athletic trainers have toward improving the overall safety of all sports in Oklahoma.
