Tulsa Announces 2018 Spring Football Dates

TULSA, Oklahoma –– The Tulsa Golden Hurricane football team will begin spring practice on Tuesday, March 6, it was announced today.

The Golden Hurricane takes the practice field on March 6, for the first of 15 spring practice dates. Spring Drills will conclude with the Annual Spring Game on Saturday, April 7.

"I'm excited about the opportunity to get back the field with our guys. We played a lot of young guys last year. We had about 20 guys that started for the first time, and a bunch of those guys are coming back," said Tulsa head coach Philip Montgomery.

"By the time spring football gets here, our players will have another winter off-season under their belt. When we get on the field, we'll be able to see their growth of what they carry-over from last year," added Montgomery. "In addition, we were able to add a lot of mid-term transfers in the December signing class that we'll be able to get on the field with for the first time. We'll see how they'll fit into our plans–– watching them move and run, and seeing the impact those guys will make."

The first seven practices will take place before spring break for Tulsa. The normal weekly schedule will have Tulsa practicing on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. A Thursday, March 15 practice will be the culmination of the first seven practice sessions before taking off for Spring Break (March 19-23).

Following Spring Break, Tulsa will return to the practice field on Tuesday, March 27, and practice the next two weeks before completing the spring session with the Spring Game on Saturday, April 7. The Spring Game kickoff time will be announced at a later date.

"We have to continue to grow this young team into what we want it to be. Spring ball is the first time we'll be able to create and see what the identity of our football team is going to be in 2018," said Montgomery.

Tulsa will go into spring practice with 47 returning lettermen and a total of 25 players who started at least one game in the 2017 season, including 14 on defense and 11 on offense.
