Golden Hurricane Rolls in Sweep Over Temple

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa volleyball team (15-7, 7-3) outlasted a late Temple (5-17, 2-8) run to sweep the Owls, 3-0, on Friday in the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
With the sweep, the Golden Hurricane improves to a lofty 9-1 on its home court this season. The victory also marks the fourth sweep inside the Reynolds Center for Tulsa in 2018.
The TU offense came out strong in the first set, hitting a remarkable .444 to secure the first frame handily, 25-19. Callie Cook caught fire early, knocking down five kills in set one on a lofty .625 hitting percentage.
The second set played out similarly to the first, as the Golden Hurricane managed to take the set, 25-21. Cook tallied another four kills, while sophomore Maggie Hembree stepped up and added four kills of her own. Cook once again hit with efficiency, putting down her four kills on six swings for a .667 clip.
The third and final frame unfolded to be a back-and-forth battle, with Tulsa able to clinch the set and match despite a late Temple rally, 26-24. Cook, Rachel Moore and Elyse Savadove added three kills each, while junior DS/L Taylor Horsfall stepped up defensively with 10 digs.
Cook finished the match with 12 total kills, tying her season-high mark. Her lofty .524 hitting percentage also marks the highest percentage by a Tulsa player this season. Junior Mariah Pardo managed her team-high ninth double-double of the season, accumulating 36 assists and 12 digs in the win.
As a team, TU recorded a solid 66 percent sideout percentage, to go along with 46 kills, 67 digs and a .266 hitting percentage in Friday's sweep.
The Tulsa volleyball squad will play its 11th home match of the season on Sunday, as the Hurricane is scheduled to face off with UConn (11-11, 3-6 AAC) in the Reynolds Center at 12 p.m. CT.
