TULSA, Okla. ––
The Tulane Green Wave scored the final 17 points en route to a 24-17 victory over Tulsa Saturday night in front of 16,133 fans at H.A. Chapman Stadium. Tulsa built a 17-7 lead in the 3rd quarter, only to see that disappear in the 4th period.

It marked the third time in the last four games that Tulsa took a lead into the 4th quarter, but could not come out with the victory.

Tulsa (1-7, 0-4 AAC) led for three-plus quarters until the Green Wave tied the score on a field goal with 12:06 left in the 4th quarter, and then took the lead with 3:46 left on a Justin McMillan 39-yard run.

Tulsa had one last opportunity, starting from its own 25-yard line with 3:46 left on the game clock. Tulsa proceeded to the Tulane 44, but a penalty and sack put the Hurricane back at their own 43-yard line facing a 4th-and 18 with just under 1:30 to play. Tulsa's 4th down play went for only a gain of 12 yards, six yards shy of the first down.

The win by Tulane (3-5, 2-2 AAC) was the first time that the Green Wave has won in seven meetings played in Tulsa. The series now stands at 11-4-0 in favor of the Golden Hurricane.

For the game, Tulane out-gained the Hurricane 404 to 315 yards. Keylon Stokes scored both Tulsa touchdowns, one on a 28-yard pass from Seth Boomer and another on a 14-yard run. Boomer completed 12-of-26 passes for 180 yards, while the Hurricane totaled 135 rushing yards.

Tulsa scored the first points of the game on a 35-yard Nate Walker field goal that was set-up by a 55-yard Jarion Anderson punt return, the longest of his career, to the Tulane 20-yard line.

The two teams managed just 141 yards between them in the first period, while the Hurricane defense held Tulane to just 63 yards on 20 carries for a 3.1 average per play and forced one fumble, recovered by Cooper Edmiston.

The Hurricane went ahead 10-0 when Boomer connected with Stokes on a 28-yard touchdown at the 9:58 mark of the second quarter, capping a 55-yard, 5-play drive in taking just 1:36 off the clock.

Tulane scored its first points with under one minute left before halftime on a Darius Bradwell one-yard run, cutting the Tulsa lead to three points. The score was set-up after a Tulsa roughing the kicker penalty on an attempted field goal.

At halftime, Tulsa held a slight advantage in total offense, 154 to 147 yards, along with a 10-7 lead.

Tulsa took its first possession 84 yards in 10 plays to take a 17-7 lead at the 7:47 mark of the third quarter, as Keylon Stokes ran the final 14 yards for the score. The Green Wave took the ensuing kickoff and responded with a 75-yard drive in eight plays, as quarterback Justin McMillan scored from one-yard out to bring the score to 17-14.

Then the Green Wave knotted the score 17-17 early in the 4th quarter on a 20-yard field goal at the 12:06 mark, capping a 10-play, 52-yard drive.

WHAT WAS NOTEWORTHY:
TULSA DEFENSE AND 4th DOWN … On Tulane's first possession, the Green Wave went on 4th down and was stopped by the Hurricane defense … after that opening possession defensive stop, opposing offenses recorded just 2-of-6 on 4th downs this year.

COOPER … Junior linebacker Cooper Edmiston had a takeaway for the 4th time in the last 5 games … he now has 6 takeaways on the season … Edmiston also had his 10th career double-figure tackle game and the 4th of the season.

BIG 'O" HAS JERSEY RETIRED … At halftime, 1991 All-American Jerry Ostroski was honored in a special presentation as he will join eight other Golden Hurricane football student-athletes to have their numbers retired by The University of Tulsa … Ostroski (1988-91) wore No. 55 as an offensive lineman for the Hurricane … in addition to his first-team AP honor, the 6'3", 322-pound senior was also named an All-America selection by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA), The Sporting News (TSN), United Press International (UPI), College and Pro Football Weekly and the Poor Man's Guide to the NFL Draft … he joins #14 Billy Guy Anderson (QB), #17 Jerry Rhome (QB), #31 Ellis Jones (L), #36 Felto Prewitt (L), #45 Glenn Dobbs (QB), #64 Marvin Matuszak (OL), #81 Howard Twilley (WR) and #83 Steve Largent (WR) as the only TU players to have their jerseys retired. Largent was the most recent to have his jersey retired in October 2008.

FIRST TWO CAREER SCORES FOR KEYLON … Sophomore Keylon Stokes scored his first touchdown of his career in his 16th game for the Hurricane on a 28-yard pass reception in the 2nd quarter, while he scored his first rushing touchdown with a 14-yard scamper in the 3rd quarter.
