Tulsa Men’s Tennis Goes Perfect in Singles on First Day of Main Draw

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa men's tennis team earned a flawless 2-0 mark in singles on the first day of the main draw at the Saint Francis Health System ITA All-American Championships on Thursday.
Newcomer Kody Pearson squared off with Harrison Scott (Texas) in the first singles match of the day. Scott came into the match ranked No. 47 in the Oracle ITA preseason singles rankings.
In set one, both sides refused to give up serve, until Pearson broke to go up, 5-4. Pearson continued the momentum, eventually seizing the set, 6-4. In the second set, Pearson found his rhythm, taking the match in convincing fashion, 6-4, 6-1.
In Tulsa's second singles match of the afternoon, senior Majed Kilani faced off against Tim Sandkaulen (Ole Miss), with Sandkaulen ranked No. 14 in the Oracle ITA preseason singles rankings.
The senior found his groove early, handling Sandkaulen in a tight first set, 7-5. The second frame played out in Kilani's favor, as each side held serve until Kilani broke to move ahead 3-1 in the frame. From there, the senior showed his veteran prowess, clinching the set and match, 6-2.
Doubles play wrapped up day one for the Golden Hurricane, as Jarod Hing and Daniel Siddall took on Alex Kobelt and Kyle Seelig of Ohio State. The Tulsa duo rallied in the second set, but came up just short, 6-1, 6-4.
The next round of the main draw takes place tomorrow, Oct. 5, with times to be announced later this evening.
