TULSA, Okla. ––
The Memphis Tigers came out of the gates and sored 17 points on their first three possessions and went on for a 47-21 victory over Tulsa (2-8, 1-5 AAC) Saturday afternoon in front of 27,904 fans at Liberty Bowl Stadium

Memphis (6-4, 3-3 AAC) out-gained the Hurricane on the day, 499-252 yards, en route to becoming bowl eligible with its sixth victory of the season. The yardage total was the lowest for the Hurricane this season, while Memphis's total yards was the most given up by Tulsa.

Tulsa's Corey Taylor gained 117 yards and 2 TDs on 24 carries to lead the Hurricane offense, while Seth Boomer completed 14-of-26 passes for 140 yards and had his third straight game with a TD toss. The American Athletic Conference's leading rusher Darrell Henderson had a game-high 166 yards and two TDs to lead the Tigers

It wasn't until the 3rd quarter at the 8:42 mark that the Hurricane put its first points on the scoreboard after a 38-yard Jarion Anderson punt return set-up Tulsa at the Tigers 29-yard line. Four plays later on a 3rd-and-goal from the 18-yard line, Boomer connected with Justin Hobbs for the Tulsa touchdown, cutting the Memphis lead to 27-7.

Memphis (6-4, 3-3 AAC) responded on the subsequent possession with a 75-yard, 8-play drive that put the home team ahead 34-7.

Tulsa answered by scoring on its second straight possession as Taylor's one-yard run at the 3:10 mark of the 3rd quarter capped a 5-play, 73-yard drive. The scoring drive was helped set-up by a Taylor 38-yard run and two Memphis pass interference penalties.

Just as Tulsa responded to Memphis' score, the Tigers responded with another 6 points at the 14:29 mark to go ahead 40-14. The drive was helped along by a pass interference call on 4th-and-2 from the Tulsa 47 that put the Tigers at the Tulsa 37-yard line.

After Tulsa went 4-and-out, the Tigers' John Williams took the punt 72 yards for a touchdown and a 47-14 lead.

Taylor scored his second rushing touchdown of the game late in the contest, as his 2-yard run capped a 72-yard, 13-play drive to finish out the scoring.

Memphis took the game's opening possession 63 yards on 10 plays, but the Hurricane defense stiffened inside the 20-yard line, forcing the Tigers to three points.

However, Memphis converted its second drive into seven points for a 10-0 lead with just under 8 minutes gone in the contest. The Tigers' score came on a 3-yard pass that capped a 51-yard, 4-play drive.

The Tigers scored on their third straight possession to take a 17-0 lead on a Bradley White to Joey Magnifico pass, capping an 80-yard, 11-play drive. Memphis made the score 24-0 with 3:58 left in the first half when Henderson ran in from one-yard out for the score.

Memphis took a 27-0 lead on a 21-yard field goal as time expired in the first half.

At halftime, Memphis held a dominating 331 to 73-yard edge in total offense, while also holding onto the ball for over 18 minutes. Tulsa rushed for only 23 yards on 20 carries and passes for another 50 yards in the first 30 minutes.

Tulsa goes back on the road next Saturday for a 2:30 p.m. (CT) game against the Navy Midshipmen in Annapolis, Maryland.
