Golden Hurricane Topples ECU in 3-1 Decision on the Road

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The University of Tulsa volleyball team (17-7, 9-3) managed its third-straight win in a 3-1 victory over East Carolina (13-10, 4-8) on Friday night in North Carolina.
With another conference win under its belt, Tulsa holds steady at third overall in the American, looking to hunt down UCF and Cincinnati at first and second, respectively.
In the first set, the Hurricane made its presence felt offensively, knocking down 15 kills on a .433 clip to take the frame 25-17. Senior Emily Thorson continued her recent momentum, tallying five kills to pace the team in the set on a .444 hitting percentage.
ECU managed to regain its footing in the second set, edging out TU 25-22. Despite dropping the stanza, freshman Elyse Savadove heated up at the net, racking up four kills on seven swings on a .571 hitting percentage.
The third frame played out similarly to the first set, as Tulsa once again secured the stanza 25-17. Thorson paced the squad in kills in the frame, this time adding six kills on nine swings for a .667 clip.
The Golden Hurricane closed out the match in the fourth and final set, edging out the Pirates 25-23. Senior Rachel Moore and junior Taylor Horsfall accumulated six digs in the frame, along with Moore's five kills to lead Tulsa.
The Hurricane hit with efficiency in the victory, hitting a season-high .324 as a team. Mariah Pardo handled the vast majority of setting duties, racking up a season-high 49 assists in the Friday win.
Head coach Ryan Wills' bunch stays on the road for perhaps the most important match of the season to this point, as it takes on Cincinnati for a share of second-place in the AAC on Sunday at 12 p.m. CT in Ohio.
