TULSA, Okla. – The Tulsa men's and women's track & field teams will be heading to Birmingham, Alabama, for the American Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend. The championship is a two-day event that starts on Friday, Feb. 23.
At last year's indoor championships, Ben Preisner won the 5,000-meters. Preisner's time of 14:30.85 led the field in the 5,000-meters. Fellow teammates Adam Roderique and Isaac Dobos finished second and fourth, respectively. So far this year, Preisner has posted a conference-best 13:57.97 in the 5,000-meters, which is faster than last year's championship time.
Aleks Rapp took home first in the weight throw, with a mark of 20.02 meters. Rapp looks to bring home another top finish while improving on his previous mark.
Preisner and Roderique finished third and fourth in the 3,000-meters last season. With the top two finishers from last year graduating, Preisner and Roderique look to compete for the top spot. Preisner has posted a time of 8:10.74, which is a full two seconds faster than any other competitor in The American.
The Hurricane looks to repeat last year's championship in the men's distance relay.
On the women's side, Caitlin Klopfer has posted the second fastest time for the conference in the 5,000-meters, 16:52.78, and looks to compete for first place. Aaliyah Birmingham looks to compete in the women's 60-meter dash. Birmingham's time of 7.42 is just tenths of a second slower than the top time in The American this season.
