The Tulsa women's basketball team dropped a 70-59 decision to Wichita State in the regular season finale on Monday night at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.  TU fell to 9-20 on the season and concluded league play with a 3-13 mark in the American Athletic Conference, while WSU moved to 14-16 overall and finished with a 9-7 record in the league.

Tulsa will return to action on Saturday, March 3rd in the American Athletic Conference Championship First Round.  The #12 seed Golden Hurricane will take on #5 seed Houston at 7:00 pm Central.

Erika Wakefield had a team-best 17 points, while Alexis Gaulden added 12, and Addison Richards recorded a career-high nine points.  Wakefield also led the Hurricane with seven rebounds and four assists, while Jasmine Butler tallied four blocks.

"That is the way you want to go out as a senior," Head Coach Matilda Mossman said.  "Erika's rebounds were huge.  She is the smallest person on the floor, but she has a sixth sense about where she needs to be.  Ebony missed a couple of three's and then hit one to get the scoring going for TU so that was good to see."

WSU had a 45-33 lead in rebounds, a 16-12 advantage in assists and a 10-7 lead in steals, while Tulsa had an 8-2 advantage in blocks.

Both teams shot 38-percent from the field, while the Shockers hit 30-percent of their three-point attempts compared to the Hurricane's 26-percent.  Wichita State was 18-of-22 from the free throw line, while Tulsa was 8-of-11.

Tulsa hit just 3-of-12 from the field in the first quarter, while Wichita State was 5-of-12 for a 14-8 advantage at the end of the first frame.

The Golden Hurricane battled back and pulled to within one, 16-15, at the 7:27 mark of the second quarter and trailed by two, 22-20 with 4:51 left in the period.  The Shockers took a 33-29 advantage into the break.

Tulsa battled back for a 34-33 lead at the 8:57 mark of the third frame on a three-pointer by Gaulden.  There were two tied scores and six lead changes before the Shockers went on a 7-0 run for a 47-41 lead with 3:09 remaining in the quarter, and WSU went on to own a 55-45 advantage with one quarter to play.

Tulsa pulled to within six, 59-53, at the 4:51 mark of the final quarter, and then again with 2:48 remaining (61-55), but that is as close as the Hurricane would come as the Shockers claimed the 11-point victory (70-59).

WSU was led by Diamond Lockhart with 16 points, while Rangie Bessard added 15, Angiee Tompkins 14 and Sabrina Lozada-Cabbage 12.  Bessard and Lozada-Cabbage each had a team-best 11 rebounds.
