Spotlight on Tyler Bowling…
#72 Tyler Bowling • 6'6" • 325 • Offensive Guard
Tyler Bowling is a senior offensive lineman from Yukon, Oklahoma. Tyler plays left guard and has started 25 games. He was a second-team American Athletic Conference selection in each of his last two seasons. Tyler will graduate next December 2018 with a degree in management.
Favorite part of spring football…
Getting out and competing with my teammates. We get to put on our pads and hit people, and we don't have a game at the end of the week that will destroy our bodies. So, we get to be fresh every single day.
Married my high school sweetheart…
My wife's name is Ilse. We started dating my junior year, and her senior year at Yukon High School. We were married my sophomore year at TU in 2015.
My baby girl…
Two-year old girl Vivianne
Juggling life as a husband, father, student and football athlete…
It's rough sometimes. Sometimes you get a little overworked and I don't have enough time. But my family gives me something to work for. It gives me a reason to wake up every day and work, so they keep me going.
Not a fan of any particular NFL offensive lineman growing up…
I really wasn't a fan of offensive linemen. I liked skill guys. I liked Jerome Bettis of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was kind of my size, but he would still run people over and score touchdowns. He was my hero.
Lining up next to a new left tackle after starting the last two seasons next to Evan Plagg…
He's not totally new. Waahid (Muhammad) and I played three games together last year, but it's different because we don't have that feel like Evan and I had. We had a lot of chemistry because we had a lot of snaps played together. Spring ball will get us a lot of reps together and we'll get used to each other's styles.
Starting third consecutive year next to center Chandler Miller…
Everything is pretty easy. I know where he's stepping, he knows where I'm stepping. I haven't stepped on Chandler's feet in years. Two new guys next to each other, it happens a lot (stepping on each other).
In my free time…
Other than spending time with my family, I play video games when I have time, when the baby is sleeping and my wife is doing something else.
With my daughter…
She likes to go outside, so we'll go outside for her to run around and yell. We'll go to the park. And, she loves ice cream.
Life after college…
Pro football is the plan. If fortunate to play professionally, then after I'd like to be a Human Resource Manager, because I like talking to people and would like to be the person who hires people for a company. Why? That's where it all starts. The people are what makes the company tick. It's being a part of the team. In football, you always hear it starts with the O-Line, it starts upfront. It's a team.
