The Tulsa men's soccer team tied #4 Michigan State, 0-0, in double-overtime on Sunday afternoon at Demartin Stadium in East Lansing, Mich. TU moved to 1-0-1 on the season, while MSU also moved to 1-0-1 overall.
"I thought we defended really well overall, and we defended the corner kicks well too," Head Coach Tom McIntosh said. "At times we moved the ball pretty well and created some good chances in the first half, and I was pleased with the overall performance in the first 45 minutes. In the second half, as a lot of Sunday games go, it was open, back-and-forth, and not a lot of great chances. Cooper [Clark] made a big save late and we created a couple good chances, but it was a tough game between two good teams."
Munashe Raranje had a team-leading three shots, while Miguel Velasquez and Juan Sanchez each added two attempts and five others had one shot. Cooper Clark logged all 110 minutes in goal and picked up five saves for the shutout.
The Spartans had a 13-12 lead in shots, including a 5-4 edge in shots on goal, and a 12-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Tulsa will return to action on Friday, August 31 in the home opener against UNLV. Game time is set for 8:00 pm at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium.
