TULSA, Okla. –– The Tulsa Golden Hurricane football team added shoulder pads to the practice routine on Sunday morning, for the first workout this fall camp in pads. The Hurricane went for 2+ hours on Harwell field as the temperature reached 89 with humidity at 57-percent.

"Always, the first day of pads the energy level is going to be high," said Tulsa head coach Philip Montgomery.  "I was really pleased with the way we came out and practiced. We didn't overextend ourselves from a standpoint of somebody taking a shot we don't need to take. We took care of each other, but it was very physical and very competitive."

Willie Wright takes a water break as humidity reached 57% in morning workout.

"In each of the three days, it was obvious on the field that the humidity increased each day from 39% Friday, 50% Saturday and 57% today. "Obviously, it was hotter today. The humidity was up and practice was a little longer. Guys were feeling it, but I thought we finished practice well," added Montgomery.

"There' a definite difference between I'm running and I'm in shape, because our guys are in great shape, to doing it in pads. But, the way we practice and what we do it's a totally different feeling for those guys. Plus, add the factors that you have to think and concentrate, get a signal, get a call in, so you're thinking about a lot of other things," said Montgomery. There's a lot of variables to it.  Our guys are in great shape, but we have to get in practice shape."
