On the men's side, TU returns six letterwinners, including two starters, and two student-athletes that red-shirted last season, and welcomes six newcomers to the roster. The Golden Hurricane registered an 18-14 overall record, including an 8-10 mark for seventh place in The American last season, two spots higher than the preseason predicted order of finish. Tulsa has now finished better than its preseason prediction in all five seasons under Haith.
Igbanu finished last season ranked second on the team in scoring and led the Hurricane in rebounding, while also posting the second-best shooting percentage in the league (.616). TU posted a 10-3 non-conference record a year ago, the best start under Haith, and the most wins prior to league play since the 2009-10 season.
On the women's side, Tulsa returns 10 letterwinners, including four starters, from last year's team that finished the 2018-19 season with a 13-18 overall record and a seventh-place finish in American Athletic Conference play.
TU's seventh-place league finish was four spots higher than the previous season and five positions better than the preseason predicted order of finish by the league's coaches. More positives TU can take from last year include starting the season with a 9-7 mark, the first winning record after 16 games since the 2013-14 season, as well as a 3-0 mark to begin league play, the best start since 2007-08. The Golden Hurricane returns four of its top-five scorers from a year ago, including Alexis Gaulden (11.8 ppg), Brady (8.3 ppg), Rebecca Lescay (6.5 ppg), Desiree Lewis (5.9) ppg.
Tulsa men will have their lone exhibition game on Thursday, October 31, while the women will host Southwestern Oklahoma State on Wednesday, October 30 in their only preseason warmup.
Regular season openers are scheduled for Tuesday, November 5 as the men host Houston Baptist at 12:00 pm and the women host Stephen F. Austin at 7:00 pm.
