Pearson Advances to Consolation Round of 16 at 2019 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. - Tulsa men's tennis sophomore Kody Pearson got back on the winning side on Thursday, as he defeated Yuta Kikuchi from California in the Consolation Round of 64 at the 2019 Oracle International Tennis Association (ITA) National Fall Championships. The men's championships are being played at The Tennis Club at Newport Beach Country Club in California.
Following a tie at 1-1 in the first set, Pearson won three straight games, and five of six in claim the opening set, 6-2.
In the second set, the Australian won the final three games to claim the match. He advances to the Consolation Round of 16 on Friday.
Pearson never trailed in the match, as he upset the Golden Bear to win his third singles ranked contest of the fall season. Pearson started the year ranked 96th in the 2019-20 Preseason ITA Division I Men's Individual National Rankings. Kikuchi is 75th.
Pearson (7-3 overall) is set to play No. 77 Jackie Tang from Columbia on Friday at 11 a.m.
