MOBILE, Ala. — Pitchers Chenise Delce and Samantha Pochop combined for 25 strikeouts over 14 innings to lead Tulsa to wins over Mercer and North Dakota on Friday, the first day of the Jaguar Challenge.

Delce started the day with a season-high 12 Ks to lead the Golden Hurricane (4-3), who have now won four straight, to a 3-2 victory over Mercer. Pochop then recorded a career-high 13 strikeouts and yielded just one hit for her second consecutive shutout as TU topped North Dakota, 2-0.

The Hurricane will return for games against Lipscomb (9 a.m.) and host South Alabama (11:15 a.m.) on Saturday, Feb. 16.

Game One
Morgan Neal's two-out double completed a seventh-inning rally that gave Tulsa a 3-2 win over Mercer in the first game of the Jaguar Challenge.

Haley Meinen went 2-for-3 with an RBI to back another strong performance in the circle by freshman Chenise Delce. The rookie allowed just three hits and two runs with 12 strikeouts to improve to 2-1 on the season.

Mercer (3-4) got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the third. Tulsa came right back to tie the score on Meinen's RBI single in the top of the fourth.

In the sixth, the Bears again took the lead as a runner scored on a wild pitch.

However, the Hurricane rallied with two runs in the seventh, scoring both with two outs to take the lead for good.

Tori Stafford got the rally started with a one-out double. With two outs, Julia Hollingsworth worked the count full before dropping a single into right field to again tie the game. The senior stole second and sped home on Neal's double to right for a 3-2 advantage.

Delce made sure the lead stood with a pair of strikeouts in the bottom of the seventh to close out the win.

Game Two
Samantha Pochop allowed just one hit and recorded a career-high 13 strikeouts, while Julia Hollingsworth went 3-for-3 with two runs scored to help Tulsa defeat North Dakota, 2-0.

North Dakota (1-5) got a pair of runners on to start the game on an error and single up the middle. Pochop squashed the threat with three straight strikeouts to end the threat and start a run of 21 consecutive batters retired.

Tulsa got on the board in the bottom of the first with a run on three hits and an error. Alexis Perry's RBI single with two outs plated Hollingsworth, who opened the inning with a hit to left field.

That would be all the lead that Pochop would need, but the Hurricane added an insurance run in the fifth, when Neal singled to right and Hollingsworth came around to score following an error in the outfield.

Pochop then breezed through the sixth and seventh and ended the contest with her 13th strikeout of the game.
