Preisner Wins Third-Straight Title on First Day of Conference Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – University of Tulsa redshirt-senior Ben Preisner completed the 5,000-meter three peat on Friday, running 14:24.62 for his third-straight title in the event on the first day of the American Indoor Championships at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
Also in the event, Scott Beattie and Peter Lynch took second and fourth in 14:25.46 and 14:35.12, respectively, for a total of 23 points in the 5,000 meters.
After day one, the Golden Hurricane men sit in second place overall with 34 team points on day one of the American Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Thrower Aleks Rapp gave Tulsa its first points of the conference meet, scoring in the men's weight throw for the Golden Hurricane. The redshirt-junior launched the weight 63-4.75 feet (19.32 meters) to score five points toward the overall team score.
Shortly after, Caitlin Klopfer and Jenny O'Bryan added the first points of the meet for the TU women, as the Hurricane picked up six points in the 5,000 meters. Klopfer took fourth in 16:49.67, while O'Bryan notched a PR in 17:07.91 for eighth.
In addition, Klopfer's time earned her the No. 6 time in Tulsa indoor school history in the event.
The TU women also rewrote the record books in the women's distance medley relay, as the quartet of Jaidyn and Jaidah McCallon, Sabrina Monsees and Adrena Mazzei ran to third in 11:37.56. The time marked the third-fastest in indoor school history in the event.
The Tulsa men would take third in the men's version of the same event, as Isaac Akers, Henry Visser, August Bont and Jerik Embleton earned a 10:04.70 in the race for a new Tulsa season best.
To open day one for the Golden Hurricane, Embleton and Adam Breaux both ran nearly identical times of 4:16.58 in the men's mile preliminary section to qualify for Saturday's mile finals.
Senior Bailey Stewart followed it up with his second-best 400 meter race of the season, going 48.08 to book his spot in Saturday morning's 400-meter finals.
In the women's 800 meters, Tulsa made a splash in the second heat, as Sabrina Monsees (2:09.49) and Allison Bailey (2:10.14) went 1-2 to earn season-best marks and to auto-qualify for tomorrow afternoon's finals.
In similar fashion in the men's 800-meter preliminary section, Robert Tully posted a 1:50.77, while Grey Howard managed a 1:53.53. Both runners took second in their heat to earn automatic bids into the finals, while Tully notched a season-best in the process.
