TULSA, Okla. — The University of Tulsa track and field squad splits for the first time in the indoor season this weekend, scheduled to take part in the Indoor Gorilla Classic and Iowa State Classic, beginning Friday and running through Saturday.
The Golden Hurricane will travel nearly its entire roster to both meets in search of regional-qualifying marks. In addition, the distance medley relay teams will get another opportunity to qualify at the Gorilla Classic.
The Iowa State Classic is set to begin on Friday at 12 p.m. CT with field events, while the Indoor Gorilla Classic is scheduled for a 2 p.m. CT start time, also with field events running throughout the day.
On Saturday, the meet in Ames, Iowa, once again kicks off at noon, while the Pittsburg, Kansas, meet begins at 10 a.m. CT with the morning session track events. Each meet will customarily conclude with the 4x400-meter relay, while the Tulsa relays will run at Iowa State at 4:00 p.m. (women's) and 4:15 p.m. (men's), respectively.
Head coach Steve Gulley's bunch is coming off an impressive performance in the Sunflower State, in which the Golden Hurricane took home six event wins. Tulsa made its biggest splash in the 3,000 meters, as Scott Beattie managed a 8:13.17 for the win and the meet record in the process.
