Tulsa Opens Outdoor Season at Arkansas Spring Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The University of Tulsa track and field squad claimed two event wins in the team's outdoor season opener at the Arkansas Spring Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
On the women's side, freshman Jaidah McCallon earned a first-place finish in the open section of the 800 meters, going 2:14.68 to win the event by more than three full seconds.
Thrower Baylor Reese also tallied gold in the meet, picking up a 42.35-meter throw in the discus to dominate the field and earn first in the event.
Along with the two top finishers, Tulsa notched 12 top-five placings in the two-day meet, highlighted by a strong TU race in the invitational section of a heated 800-meter run. The Golden Hurricane would go 2-3 in the race, as Grey Howard and Robert Tully ran 1:51.87 and 1:52.68, respectively, for silver and bronze.
The team got a strong season-opening performance from senior sprinter Bailey Stewart, who picked up two top-five finishes in the meet. Stewart notched a 10.79 (+1.5) in the 100 meters for fifth, followed by a time of 47.77 in the 400 meters for fourth overall.
In the 1,500-meter invitational, Adam Breaux continued his strong surge as of late, running the fast race in 3:56.49 for Tulsa's only sub-4 runner and third-place overall.
On the women's side of the same event, TU managed three runners inside the top-10, as Adrena Mazzei (4:36.79), Katharina Pesendorfer (4:44.26) and Caroline Miller (4:47.16) took fifth, seventh and eighth, respectively.
The Tulsa squad will prepare for a loaded week, as it will split for the Stanford Invitational, San Francisco State Invitational and the Oral Roberts Invite from March 28-30.
