NORMAN, Okla. — Morgan Nelson went 2-for-3 with three RBIs to lead Northwestern to a 9-1 run-rule win over Tulsa on Saturday morning at Marita Hynes Field.
Josie Muffley extended her hitting streak to nine games and drove in the lone run for the Golden Hurricane (12-8). Three Tulsa errors led to six unearned runs in the contest and Samantha Pochop took the loss with three strikeouts and a pair of unearned runs allowed in two innings.
Meanwhile, Danielle Williams led the Wildcats (16-5) in the circle as she yielded just one run on three hits with seven strikeouts to improve to 12-2 on the season.
Pochop nearly got out of the first inning unscathed, but a two-out error opened the door to three unearned runs for Northwestern. The advantage grew to 7-0 after a four-run third inning.
Muffley broke up the shutout in the top of the fourth with the first homer of her collegiate career.
However, the Wildcats answered with two more runs in the bottom of the frame for the 9-1 lead. Williams then retired the side in the fifth to end the contest.
Tulsa will return home and face Drake (12-11) at 12 p.m. on Sunday, March 10 at the Collins Family Softball Complex.
