SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Tulsa rallied with a run in the top of the seventh and put the tying run in scoring position, but Missouri State was able to close out a 3-2 victory over the visiting Golden Hurricane on Wednesday night at Killian Stadium.
Â
Tori Stafford went 3-for-3 for Tulsa (26-13), which will return to American Athletic Conference play this weekend at ECU. Julia Hollingsworth also added a pair of hits, while Morgan Neal set a new personal single-season best with her 13th double of the spring.
Â
Kassidy Scott took the loss in the circle after she gave up four hits and a pair of unearned runs in her two innings of work.
Â
Meanwhile, the Bears (24-14) were led by Payton Minnis, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Erin Griesbauer went five innings and gave up one run to improve to 6-7 on the season and Steffany Dickerson picked up her fourth save with one run allowed in two innings.
Â
Chenise Delce started the contest for TU in the circle and the freshmen kept the Missouri State bats silent through her three innings. Delce yielded just one hit and one walk to go along with two strikeouts.
Â
However, the Bears took advantage of two errors to record a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth to grab a 2-0 lead.
Â
Tulsa sliced the deficit in half on Alexis Perry's RBI single in the top of the sixth, but Missouri State got that run back in the bottom of the frame for a 3-1 cushion heading to the seventh.
Â
Stafford led off the inning with her third hit of the day and she would touch home on Neal's two-out double to left-center. The hit put the tying run in scoring position, but Dickerson got a pop up to end the contest and preserve the 3-2 win.
Â
The Hurricane will be back in action this weekend starting with a 5 p.m. (CT) matchup at ECU on Friday, April 12.
