Golden Hurricane Produces Five All-Time Marks at Drake Relays

IowaThe Tulsa track and field squad set five program top-10 all-time marks at the prestigious Drake Relays, competing in Iowa from Thursday-Saturday.
 
Reed Sahadevan and Reagan Hausmann got TU off to a hot start on Thursday, both recording lofty personal records in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and 5,000 meters, respectively. Sahadevan's 21-second personal best of 9:06.26 marked the No. 10 time in school history in the event, while Hausmann notched a 17-second PR of 17:02.48.
 
Ali Lund followed with an improvement on her No. 4 distance in school history in the javelin throw, launching a toss of 42.82 meters (140-6 feet) for a personal-best mark for the sophomore.
 
Carsyn Spurgeon also notched a lofty personal-best mark at Drake, jumping 6.43 meters (21-1.25 feet) to crush her previous career long. As of now, the mark slots Spurgeon into the NCAA top-10.
 
The Golden Hurricane made a strong presence in the premier relay events, earning five top-five finishes and multiple school all-time marks.
 
In the women's 4x800-meter relay, the TU quartet of Allison Bailey, Sabrina Monsees, Jaidah McCallon and Adrena Mazzei set the No. 3 mark in Tulsa history with their time of 8:56.92.
 
The men followed suit shortly after, notching the fourth-fastest time in school all-time with their 7:25.21 running, earning Mark Middleton, Robert Tully, Braydon Rennie and Grey Howard third overall at the aptly-named Blue Oval.
 
After running a season-best time of 46.30 to qualify for the finals, the 4x100-meter quartet of Cara Johnson, Ca'Purnika Galbert, Jaidyn McCallon and Spurgeon placed third in the heated event in 47.49.
 
Tulsa's 4x1600-meter relay team of Caitlin Klopfer, Caroline Miller, Adrena Mazzei and Katharina Pesendorfer also made history in Iowa, setting the No. 3 time in school history in the race. The quartet posted a 20:13.77 for seventh overall and the fastest TU time since 2011.
 
The 4x1600 men followed suit with the No. 4 mark in TU history, as Jerik Embleton, Scott Beattie, Adam Breaux and Isaac Akers ran to the tune of 17:02.80 for fifth overall in the race.
 
To close out Tulsa's appearance at the Drake Relays, the men's 4x400-meter squad of Henry Visser, Emmanuel Okwuone, Grey Howard and Bailey Stewart took gold in its race in a season-best time of 3:13.67.
 
Head coach Steve Gulley's bunch will close out the regular season next week on May 3 at the Arkansas Twilight, before taking on the American Outdoor Championships on May 10-12.
