TULSA, Okla. – Five Tulsa Golden Hurricane football seniors will receive free agent tryouts with NFL teams in the next two weeks at rookie mini-camps, including a trio of offensive linemen Tyler Bowling, Chandler Miller and Willie Wright, receiver Justin Hobbs and safety McKinley Whitfield.
Wright heads to the Cleveland Browns, Whitfield to the New York Giants and Justin Hobbs to the Kansas City Chiefs mini-camps next weekend, while Miller and Bowling are headed to the Atlanta Falcons mini-camp in two weeks.
Wright (6'3", 296) started his four seasons at right tackle for the Hurricane, making 47 starts and ending his career with 30 consecutive starting assignments.
Whitfield (6'3", 217) completed his career with 264 tackles, 19 pass breakups and four interceptions from his safety position. He totaled 71 stops and seven pass break-ups as a senior in 2018.
Looking to start his NFL career in his hometown of Kansas City is Hobbs (6'4", 230), who played his prep football at Shawnee Mission West High School. In four years at Tulsa, Hobbs caught 176 passes for 2,546 yards and 12 TDs. He had 39 receptions for 480 yards and 3 touchdowns as a senior.
Starting every game of his career at the offensive center position, Miller was a two-time American Athletic Conference selection, including first-team honors as a sophomore in 2016 and second-team merits in 2017. He started a school-record 50 consecutive games since his first start as a red-shirt freshman in 2015.
Bowling's 2018 season was cut short due to an injury suffered in the sixth game of the season, but the 6'6", 327-pound guard still managed to earn second-team all-conference honors for the third straight year.
