Tulsa Drops Series Finale to Houston, 4-3

Box Score | Season Stats

TULSA, Okla. – Julia Hollingsworth homered and drove in two runs, but Houston scored three unearned runs in the sixth to take the series finale an avoid the sweep with a 4-3 win over Tulsa at Collins Family Softball Complex.

Hollingsworth's homer was her second of the series for the Golden Hurricane (26-12, 7-2) and it came in her only official at-bat. The senior also had two walks and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Tori Stafford plated the other run for TU with a grounder.

Samantha Pochop took the tough-luck loss for the Hurricane after she allowed two runs, only one of which was earned, in 5.1 innings. Kassidy Scott tossed the final 1.2 innings and yielded a pair of unearned runs.

Sarah Barker went 3-for-4 with a double to pace the Cougars (26-14, 3-6) on offense and back pitcher Presely Bell, who went the distance and improved to 8-2 on the season.

Houston got on the board in the top of the third when Arielle James lined a two-out RBI single to center field. TU got that run back in the bottom of the inning with the help of an error and Hollingsworth's sacrifice fly.

The score remained tied at 1-all headed to the sixth, when Houston took the lead for good with a three-run inning.

Tulsa committed two errors during the three-run rally that gave the Cougars a 4-1 lead.

Hollingsworth cut into the deficit to start the bottom of the inning when she clubbed her solo homer over the wall in left-center.

Tulsa had one last chance in the bottom of the seventh and pinch-hitter Jesse Smith started the frame with a single up the middle. Rylie Spell nearly tied the game two batters later, but her drive to right field bounced off the wall for a double.

Stafford grounded out to push a run home and the Hurricane had the tying run on third base, but Bell was able to shut down the rally with another grounder to end the game.

TU will return to the diamond for a non-conference matchup at Missouri State (21-13) on Wednesday, April 10. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
