SACRAMENTO, Calif
. — Freshman Katharina Pesendorfer broke her own 3,000-meter steeplechase school record late Friday night, running 10:14.44 in the first heat at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds at Hornet Stadium.

The Austria native ran the same event in 10:22.27 at the American Outdoor Championships two weeks ago to set the TU standard, qualifying her for her first career regional meet.

Despite running a historic time, neither she (23rd) nor teammate Alyssa Bolliger (36th) were able to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Austin, Texas in June.

Bolliger competed in the final heat of the packed race, also making history in Sacramento. The senior managed a 10:25.50 for a personal-best mark, as well as improving on her No. 3 TU all-time mark.

With today's completion, the outdoor season for head coach Steve Gulley's squad has reached its conclusion. The team brought home two conference titles, qualified nine athletes to the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds and set three school records in another successful year with Gulley at the helm.
