American Athletic Conference Football Media Day Kickoff on Monday-Tuesday

NEWPORT, R.I. –– The University of Tulsa head football coach Philip Montgomery and student-athletes –– senior defensive end Trevis Gipson, senior linebacker Cooper Edmiston, senior offensive tackle Chris Ivy and junior rung back Corey Taylor II –– traveled to Newport to meet the media Monday and Tuesday at the 2019 American Athletic Conference Football Media Kickoff at Gurney's Newport Resort and Spa.

The Tulsa contingent will open the annual conference kickoff Monday with a variety of video interviews and photos. Monday night will be the traditional American Athletic Conference "Clambake".

Live coverage on the American Digital Network will begin with a one-hour program Monday, July 15, at 6 p.m. CT from the site of the event's New England-style clambake. The American's Hali Oughton will be joined by Andy Katz and Andy Gresh for interviews with coaches, student-athletes and guests with the backdrop of a waterfront sunset.

The American Digital Network will be live Tuesday, July 16, beginning at 7:30 a.m. CT with the announcement of The American football preseason poll. Legendary sports broadcaster Verne Lundquist will serve as the host of Tuesday's podium sessions, featuring opening remarks by commissioner Mike Aresco, three coaches' roundtable sessions and a student-athlete roundtable discussion. Hali Oughton and Andy Gresh will anchor the American Digital Network coverage.

Here is a look at the Tulsa football student-athletes participating at the American Athletic Conference Football Media Kickoff:

COOPER EDMISTON, LB … three-year letterman and two-year starter … has played in all 37 career games and has 24 starts since coming to Tulsa … has 237 tackles, 9.5 stops for -23 yards, five interceptions, five fumble recoveries, three forced fumbles and one pass break-up in his career … needs one more fumble recovery to tie the school's career record of six ... has 13 career double-figure tackle games … has collected over 100 tackles in each of the last two years … had team-highs of 113 tackles, four interceptions, three fumble recoveries and three forced fumbles in 2018.

TREVIS GIPSON, DE … three-year letterwinner and returning starter … has played in 37 career games … has 65 career tackles, 10.5 stops for -42 yards, five sacks for -30 yards and six forced fumbles … played and started all 12 games as a junior in 2018… ranked second in the nation with five forced fumbles … had 46 tackles, 9 TFLs for -30 yards, four sacks for -20 yards, five forced fumbles, three QB hurries and one pass break-up in 12 starts.

CHRIS IVY, OT … three-year letterwinner and returning starter … has played in 36 career games … before his junior season, saw most of his time on special teams, playing on the PAT and field goal units … started all 12 games at left tackle in 2018 … didn't play any significant high school football until his junior year.

COREY TAYLOR II, RB … two-year letterwinner … has played in 19 career games and has one career start … has 1,029 career rushing yards and 16 touchdowns … has five career 100-yard rushing games, including four in the 2018 season … has five multiple rushing TD games in his career … played in 11 games and had one start in 2018 … rushed for 846 yards and 11 TDs on 178 carries for a 4.8 average.

ESPN anchor Kevin Negandhi will serve as the host of Tuesday's podium sessions, featuring opening remarks by commissioner Mike Aresco and three roundtable sessions featuring The American's head coaches.
