
Tulsa’s Keylon Stokes Named to the Paul Hornung Award Watch List

LOUISVILLE, Ky. –– The University of Tulsa junior receiver/kick returner Keylon Stokes was one of 44 college football players named to the preseason watch list for the Paul Hornung Award, it was announced today. The Paul Hornung Award is given annually by the Louisville Sports Commission (LSC) to the most versatile player in major college football.
Stokes caught a team-high 41 passes for a team-high 575 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing 15 times for 104 yards, a 6.9 average, and two TDs in 2018. He also had 13 kick-off returns for 305 yards and a 23.5 average.
In 2018, Stokes had a career-best 226 all-purpose yards with 144 kickoff return yards, 56 receiving yards and 26 rushing yards at Navy.
For his career, Stokes has totaled 1,654 career all-purpose yards and has combined for four touchdowns. In 21 career games, Stokes has caught 47 passes for 718 yards and two touchdowns, while returning 39 kicks for 832 yards and a 21.3 average in his two seasons.
The Paul Hornung Award, presented by Texas Roadhouse, was created by the LSC in January 2010 with the support of the Golden Boy himself, Paul Hornung, a native and lifelong resident of Louisville and member of the College and Pro Football Halls of Fame.
Hornung is considered by many the most versatile player in the history of college and pro football. He won the 1956 Heisman Trophy at quarterback for Notre Dame and was the number one pick in the 1957 NFL draft. He played every position in the backfield during his career with the Irish, where he also punted, kicked, returned kicks, and played defensive back.
Tulsa opens the season on Friday night, August 30 at Michigan State. The Hurricane opens the home season two weeks later on Saturday, Sept. 14, against the Oklahoma State Cowboys in a 2:30 p.m. kickoff from H.A. Chapman Stadium.
