Tulsa Football Works Out in Pads for First Time

TULSA, Okla. –– The morning rain came as the Tulsa Golden Hurricane team hit the practice field today and ended as the final whistle was blown on the turf at H.A. Chapman Stadium.

The rain didn't prevent the Hurricane from accomplishing what it set out to do on the first day of pads.

"Practice went good. It was very spirited. I liked the energy we had today. It was a little chippy, as it normally is on the first day of pads. The guys were biting at the bit to get out here on the field," said Montgomery.

"It was our third day of rain, so we're dealing with some adverse conditions. I loved our energy, now we have to be able to execute at a high rate of speed. We're really moving around, and I like that."

"There's always going to be factors that you have to be able to handle and deal with in games. There will be times that we'll face this type of weather and we'll have to come out, work in it and be able to adjust. It's helping us prepare for games where we'll have adverse conditions," added Montgomery.

"Our focus today was a little different when the pads went on where we did more in the run game since we hadn't focused on that as much the first two days," said Montgomery. "It was a good give-and-take. I'll learn more when I watch it on tape."

Tulsa takes Sunday off and will be back on the practice field Monday morning.
