NEW YORK, NY –– University of Tulsa junior tight end Denzel Carter earned honorable mention merits for the John Mackey Tight End of the Week award for his performance in last week's 34-16 win at San Jose State.

A junior college transfer from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, Carter had his first career pass receptions in the San Jose State game with two catches for 45 yards. He had an 8-yard TD reception in the first quarter that put Tulsa ahead 14-3.

He later added a 37-yard reception that led to a 27-10 Tulsa lead.

Each week during the collegiate season, a winner for the John Mackey Tight End of the Week is chosen. The John Mackey Tight End of the Week is an honor distinct and different from the annual John Mackey Award. This weekly honor was started in 2004 to draw attention to individual play by Tight Ends during the active season.

Tulsa will open the home season this Saturday at H.A. Chapman Stadium with a 2:35 p.m. kickoff against Oklahoma State in the Bank of Oklahoma Turnpike Classic.
