Celebrating 150 Years of College Football
In honor of College Football celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2019, TulsaHurricane.com will recognize some of the most memorable moments and exciting plays in the history of The University of Tulsa football each week throughout the season.

Tulsa is in its 120th season of fielding a football team. The Tulsa gridiron tradition started as Henry Kendall College in 1895 with the first team posting a 1-0-0 record lead by coach Norman Leard. There were a few seasons in the early years that Kendall College did not field a team, but later becoming The University of Tulsa, the Golden Hurricane football teams have amassed 600+ wins in school history.

This 150th College Football Anniversary moment we take a HISTORICAL LOOK this week at the longest pass play in Golden Hurricane football history.

99-Yard Pass Play Leads to 31-24 Win
On Sept. 28, 1996, the longest pass play in school history occurred. It was a 99-yard Troy DeGar to Wes Caswell connection that saw Caswell race down the opponent sideline and into the end zone. Tulsa had taken possession at its own one-yard line with 6:47 left before halftime holding onto a 10-7 lead. After a DeGar run amounted to zero yards on the first play, it was then that Tulsa struck to go ahead 17-7.

Then, on Tulsa's next possession the Hurricane began at its own 20-yard line at the 4:57 mark and marched 80 yards in 13 plays as DeGar hit Jeff Utter with a 4-yard TD toss, thus giving Tulsa a 24-7 halftime lead.
