TULSA, Okla. –– Tulsa's Shamari Brooks scored from 19 yards out and the Tulsa defense forced a Wyoming turnover in the final minute for a 24-21 victory Saturday afternoon at H.A. Chapman Stadium. Tulsa moved to 2-2 on the season, while the Cowboys suffered its first loss for a 3-1 record.

"Wow. That's about all I can say after that. Great team win, all three phases, made plays throughout," said Tulsa head coach Philip Montgomery.

Trailing 21-17 with 5:25 on the clock, Tulsa took possession at its own 25-yard line and went 75 yards in 7 plays for what proved to be the game-winning touchdown. Keenen Johnson high-pointed a pass on a 4th-and-5 for a 17-yard reception. A 15-yard facemask penalty that was tacked on to the play set-up Brooks' touchdown scamper for the 3-point lead.

The comeback win for the Hurricane was the 11th in the last 5 seasons under Montgomery.

Wyoming started its final drive at its own 45-yard line following a 36-yard kick return. The Cowboys also converted on a 4th-and-9 to the Tulsa 10-yard line with a 34-yard pass-catch. On 3rd-and-goal from the 10, Tulsa's Cooper Edmiston chased down Wyoming quarterback Sean Chambers and caused a fumble that Reggie Robinson II recovered to clinch the Tulsa victory.

Tulsa finished the game with 437 total yards, gaining a season-high 354 through the air and 83 on the ground.

Zach Smith completed 25-of-50 passes and had 2 TDs to go along with his 354 yards for the Hurricane. Johnson ended the game with 7 catches for 95 yards, Keylon Stokes had 4 receptions for 93 yards and one TD and Sam Crawford, Jr. hauled in 5 passes for 88 yards and one touchdown. Brooks finished with 67 rushing yards.

Wyoming's Chambers led his team with 193 yards passing and 83 rushing yards.

It was a wild final quarter as Wyoming overcame a 17-7 deficit and scored on two straight fourth quarter possessions for its 4-point lead before Tulsa's late game heroics.

The Hurricane went scoreless for the first 28 minutes of the game, but scored two touchdowns in a 1:40 span of the second quarter to take a 14-7 lead into halftime.

A 29-yard Jacob Rainey field goal was the only points for either team in the third period, giving Tulsa a 10-point advantage heading into the final quarter.

The Cowboys ended its almost 40-minute scoring drought when Chambers connected with Ayden Eberhardt on a 53-yard pass, capping a 92-yard, 6-play drive that brought the score to 17-14 at the 11:03 mark of the fourth quarter.

After holding Tulsa on the subsequent possession, Chambers ran 15 yards to finish off a 50-yard, 6-play scoring drive that took 2:24 off the game clock for its 21-17 lead.

The Cowboys started the game by scoring on its first possession after holding the Hurricane on the game's opening drive. The heavy run Cowboy team used its passing game on that drive, going 3-of-3 for 28 yards. Chambers ran 33 yards for the touchdown, capping 9-play, 74-yard drive.

Robinson blocked his fourth career kick came on a 38-yard Wyoming field goal attempt in the second quarter, preventing the Cowboys from adding to its 7-0 lead.

Tulsa had been held scoreless for nearly the entire first half until Smith found Stokes for a 56-yard strike down the middle of the field, tying the game 7-7, with 2:49 remaining in the first half.

The Hurricane defense forced a Wyoming 3-and-out on the subsequent possession and it took the Tulsa offense only 1:13 for a 66-yard, 5-play drive that saw Smith hit Crawford on a 37-yard touchdown pass.

At intermission, Tulsa held a 261 to 144-yard edge in total offense, passing for 223 yards. Wyoming had 75 rushing yards and 69 passing yards for the first half.
