Philip Montgomery Named The Dodd Trophy Coach of the Week

TULSA, Okla. –– Tulsa Golden Hurricane Head Coach Philip Montgomery was named The Dodd Trophy Coach of the Week, as announced by the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation and Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.
The Dodd Trophy Coach of the Week award honors a football coach who has led his team to a significant victory during the previous week, while also embodying the ward's three pillars of scholarship, leadership and integrity.
"This has already been a historic season for the Tulsa football program earning the Golden Hurricane a spot in the AP Top 25 for the first time in a decade," said Jim Terry, chairman of the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation. "Coach Dodd would have admired Coach Montgomery and his team's resiliency this season overcoming multiple double-digit deficits to put his team in contention for a possible conference championship."
Tulsa overcame a 21-point first-half deficit to secure a 28-24 victory over the No. 19-ranked SMU Mustangs on Saturday. The win gave Tulsa its second victory of a top-25 opponent this season, which represents the first time in school history that a Golden Hurricane team has defeated two ranked opponents in the same season.
The win was also the third come-from-behind victory this season after previously coming back from 18 down at #11 UCF and 14 against East Carolina.
The Dodd Trophy presented by Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl – along with the Dodd Trophy Coach of the Week Award – celebrates the head coach of a FBS team who enjoys success on the gridiron, while also stressing the importance of scholarship, leadership and integrity.
A panel consisting of all previous winners, national media, a member of the Dodd family and a College Football Hall of Fame member will identify the final list of potential recipients at the conclusion of the 2020 season. The winner of the 2020 Dodd Trophy will eb announced in Atlanta during the week of this year's Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.
