FORT WORTH, Texas ––
The University of Tulsa's Zach Smith was named to the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award's Great 8 quarterbacks list for this past week's games, the Davey O'Brien Foundation revealed today.

Smith, a 6'3" senior from Grandview, Texas, led the Hurricane to 21-point come-from-behind 28-24 victory over No. 19 SMU on Saturday.

Smith completed 26-of-38 passes for season-highs of 325 yards and 3 touchdowns. In the final three quarters, he completed 20-of-28 passes for 269 yards and all three of his TD passes and zero interceptions. His final TD pass and the eventual game-winner went 4 yards to James Palmer with 2:11 left in the contest.

Smith was named to the Great 8 List earlier this season after leading Tulsa to a victory over the No. 11-ranked UCF Knights.

The Davey O'Brien Foundation was created in 1977, and the National Quarterback Award, the oldest and most prestigious college quarterback award, was first issued in 1981. Over its time, the Davey O'Brien Foundation has given away more than $1 million in scholarships and university grants to help high school and college athletes transform leadership on the field into leadership in life.

In 1938, O'Brien, who was a star quarterback for TCU, became the first player ever to win the Heisman Trophy, Maxwell Award and Walter Camp Award in the same year. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1955. For more information, visit www.DaveyOBrien.org.
