The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in 2004 to honor the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that includes the candidates' bowl performances in its balloting.

Brin, a 6'2" sophomore from Boerne, Texas, completed 18-of-28 passes for 266 yards and 2 touchdowns in his first significant playing time of his career in leading Tulsa to a 30-24 come-from-behind victory over Tulane last week. He also rushed for 11 yards, including an 18-yard TD.

After quarterbacks Zach Smith and Seth Boomer left the game with injuries, Brin entered the Tulane contest late in the 3rd quarter with Tulsa trailing 14-0.

Starting Tulsa's first 4th quarter possession with 12:18 on the clock, Brin led the Hurricane to 3 touchdown drives. He ran 18 yards for Tulsa's first score, capping an 84-yard, 10-play drive. On Tulsa's next possession, Brin completed a 4th-and-13 pass of 23 yards to keep the drive alive, then on 4th-and-15 threw a 19-yard touchdown to tie the score at 14 with 3:05 to play, capping a 71-yard, 11-play drive.

On Tulsa's next possession starting with 1:38 on the clock, Brin marched Tulsa 75 yards in 9 plays and on 3rd-and 7 with 0:06 remaining threw a 37-yard "Hail Mary" touchdown pass to JC Santana for a 21-21 score to send the game into overtime.

Tulsa won the game in the second overtime on a 96-yard interception return.
