The Athletic Names Tulsa’s Tyler Smith to Freshman All-America Team

TULSA, Okla.  –– The University of Tulsa's Tyler Smith earned Freshman All-America honors by The Athletic, it was announced by the publication today.
 
Smith, a 6'5", 332-pound redshirt freshman from Fort Worth, Texas, started all eight games at left tackle for the Golden Hurricane this season. He played every offensive snap in six games to help power 22nd-ranked Tulsa to a 6-0 league record, an appearance in the American Athletic Conference Championship Game and an over 6-2 mark.
 
The former North Crowley High School standout received first-team All-AAC accolades as well.
 
In last week's AAC Championship Game against the No. 6-ranked Cincinnati Bearcats, Smith played all 72 offensive snaps and graded out at 94 percent with two pancakes and two knockdowns.
 
Smith returns to his hometown next week when Tulsa faces Mississippi State in the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl, Thursday, Dec. 31, at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth.
